Court Battle Over Burial Site of Kiambu Deputy Governor’s Father Continue as More Witness Testify

A witness in a family dispute confirmed in a family division court some discrepancies in meeting records that determined the burial site of James Kinani Mburu, father to Kiambu County Deputy Governor Rosemary Njeri Kirika.

During the proceedings, Gabriel Mwaniki a witness in the case admitted that not all clan members who attended the December 4, 2024, meeting consented to the decision to bury Mburu in Gilgil instead of Gatanga, his ancestral home.

The issue of attendance was raised by lawyers Danstan Omari and Stanley Kinyanjui, representing the petitioners, who argued that some family members were present in the initial consultation but did not participate in subsequent discussions.

Kinyanjui further questioned the legitimacy of signatures collected during the meetings, alleging that some were obtained without proper consent.

The body of Mzee Mburu, 90, remains at AIC Kijabe Hospital funeral home under a court order barring burial until the matter is resolved.

The dispute centers on whether Mburu should be laid to rest in Gatanga, Murang’a County—his ancestral home—or in Gilgil, where some relatives claim he had expressed a preference for burial.

The case continues as the court reviews further testimonies and evidence before issuing a final ruling on the burial site.
