New Era for Meru Diocese: Bishop Murugara Ordained at Kinoru Stadium

The Catholic Diocese of Meru today witnessed a historic moment as Coadjutor Bishop Jackson Murugara was officially ordained in a solemn ceremony at Kinoru Stadium.

The event, presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, H.E. Bert Van Megen, brought together bishops, priests, religious leaders, and thousands of faithful to celebrate this significant milestone in the Diocese’s journey.

Among those present was the newly sworn in Governor of Meru County Hon. Rev. Mutuma M’ethingia, former Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and a host of leaders.

Bishop Murugara’s ordination marks the beginning of his role as coadjutor bishop, with the expectation that he will eventually succeed Bishop Salesius Mugambi in leading the diocese.

His appointment is a recognition of his steadfast faith, years of dedicated service, and commitment to the spiritual and social well-being of the people of Meru.

A native of Tunyai Parish in Chiakariga Ward, Tharaka Constituency, Bishop Murugara was born in 1970 in Kamanyaki, Tharaka Nithi County.

His early education at Muthitwa Primary School, Matiri Boys’ School, and St. Pius X Minor Seminary in Nkubu laid the foundation for his religious calling.

He later pursued higher studies in Philosophy and Religious Studies at Consolata Philosophicum, earning a degree from the Pontifical Urbanian University in Rome.

Further studies at the Missionary Institute of London and Teresianum University in Rome deepened his expertise in Spirituality and Theology.

Before his appointment, Bishop Murugara served at Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi, for eight years.

His pastoral journey also includes guiding retreats, Christian formation, and serving at Bethany House in Sagana, where he cared for the elderly.
