President William Ruto officially flagged off the 2025 WRC Safari Rally on Thursday in a grand ceremony at City Hall Way, setting the stage for one of Kenya’s most anticipated motorsport events.
The rally cars roared to life before heading to Kasarani for the Super Special Stage, where drivers went head-to-head in the first competitive segment.
The Head of State expressed his delight in seeing the world-class event continue in Kenya for the fifth consecutive year. He reassured the government’s unwavering support for the rally and future motorsport initiatives.
“We want to create more opportunities for young Kenyans to participate in motorsports. To this end, the government will support the FIA’s affordable cross car project, which aims to nurture local motorsport talent. I thank FIA for providing free design blueprints, encouraging local manufacturing and reducing costs,” Ruto stated.
The President called on the Kenya Motorsport Federation to collaborate with the Technical and Vocational Training Authority to ensure local production of the cross cars becomes a reality.
Toyota Gazoo Racing to Train Local Talent
In another boost to local motorsport, President Ruto confirmed that the WRC Safari Rally project has partnered with Toyota Gazoo Racing Team to train Kenyan drivers and mechanics.
Additionally, the Head of State met FIA representatives from the “Wearing” program, which enhances road safety for boda boda riders by providing lifesaving helmets, aligning with Kenya’s 2024-2028 national road safety plan.
