Controversial ‘MONEY FEST’ Matatu Driver Charged Over Reckless Driving

A matatu driver has been charged at the Nairobi Traffic Court after a viral video exposed reckless driving along Kenneth Matiba Road.

Leonard Kituu, the driver of an Isuzu minibus branded “MONEY FEST 001,” associated with the son of President William Ruto, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Eric Wambo, facing five traffic-related charges, including obstruction, driving on the wrong lane, and defying police orders.

According to the prosecution, Kituu was caught on camera making a dangerous U-turn and driving on the wrong side of the road, obstructing other motorists.

When ordered by a uniformed police officer to correct his course, he allegedly ignored the directive and continued on the wrong lane.

Further investigations revealed that the vehicle was operating without a valid road service license, lacked front identification plates, and the driver was not in the mandatory PSV uniform.

Instead, Kituu was dressed in casual attire—a black t-shirt, grey jumper, and grey jeans—in violation of traffic regulations.

Kituu pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000. His case will be mentioned later this month.

This incident has reignited concerns about the enforcement of road safety regulations, particularly in Nairobi, where reckless matatu operators continue to pose risks to commuters and motorists.

Traffic police have warned PSV operators against flouting the law, emphasizing that stricter penalties will be enforced for violators.
