President Ruto moves Duale to Health ministry in new Cabinet changes

    President William Ruto on Wednesday, March 26, reshuffled his Cabinet, naming Aden Duale as the new Cabinet Secretary for the health docket. 

    In the latest changes, Duale has been moved from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Forestry to head the Ministry of Health, while Deborah Barasa has taken over the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Forestry. 

    “His Excellency the President has additionally effected portfolio reassignments within the ranks of the serving members of the Cabinet.

    “Accordingly, and in accordance with Article 152(5)(a) of the Constitution, the following Cabinet Secretaries have been reassigned Aden Bare Duale, Health Ministry and Deborah Mulongo Barasa to the Environment, Climate Change and Forestry,” a communication by Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei said.

    Prior to him being Environment CS, Duale served as the Cabinet Secretary for Defence having assumed the position on October 31, 2022.

    He was dismissed on July 11, 2024 and then reinstated on July 19, 2024 in a different capacity as Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry.

    Duale is a former Member of the National Assembly for Garissa Township Constituency.He served as the Majority Leader of the National Assembly under the Jubilee Party in the 11th Parliament from 2013 to 2017 and in the 12th Parliament from 2017 to 2020.

    He was first elected in 2007 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), but left the party in 2009, teaming up with Ruto to form the United Republican Party.
