End of an Era: Raila Odinga’s Long-Serving Bodyguard George Odiwuor Passes Away

The long-serving personal bodyguard of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, George Odiwuor, has passed away at Nairobi West Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Odiwuor, who served as Mr. Odinga’s private security aide for over three decades, was a key figure in the politician’s inner circle.

A source close to the family, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Odiwuor had been unwell and was undergoing treatment at the facility.

His death marks the end of a legacy of loyalty and dedication to Mr. Odinga, having protected and stood by him throughout his political career, from his days in opposition to his tenure as Prime Minister.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale, expressed his sorrow on Facebook, describing Odiwuor as a steadfast companion who stood by him and Mr. Odinga through thick and thin.

Odiwuor was known for his unwavering commitment to ensuring Mr. Odinga’s safety, particularly during high-stakes political events and campaigns. His three-decade service made him not just a bodyguard but a trusted confidant.

His passing leaves a void in the ODM fraternity, with many remembering him as a symbol of loyalty and sacrifice in Kenyan politics.
