A Kibera magistrate court is set to deliver its ruling today on a bond application for the proprietors of a city clinic and their surgeon, who were charged with manslaughter on Wednesday.
Robert Mutula, George Njoroge, and Edna Wanjiru were remanded after pleading not guilty to the charges before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Samson Temu.
The court ordered that they be held at the Industrial Area Prison and Lang’ata Women’s Prison, respectively, until Thursday at 2 p.m., when the decision on their bond application will be announced.
The charges relate to a botched cosmetic surgery that allegedly led to the death of businesswoman Lucy Wambui.
Wambui, a social media influencer, passed away in October 2024 due to complications arising from the procedure. She had undergone cosmetic surgery at Omnicare Medical Clinic, also known as Body by Design, and was discharged on October 18.
The clinic is co-owned by George Wakaria and Edna Wanjiru, a married couple.
Senior Prosecution Counsel Victor Owiti, representing the Director of Public Prosecutions, opposed the bond application. He argued that the accused, as owners of the facility, were also the employers of key witnesses set to testify in the case.
