Kenya Set To Face Fiji In Singapore Sevens Final

Kenya’s national sevens team, Shujaa, booked a place in the Singapore Sevens Cup final after edging out Spain 12-5 in a tense semi-final clash on Sunday.

Patrick Odongo was the star of the show once again, dotting down twice—his first coming inside the opening minute.

Nygel Amaitsa added the extras to give Kenya a 7-0 lead within the first two minutes. Odongo crossed over again just before halftime, stretching Shujaa’s advantage to 12-0 at the breather.

Spain responded with a try in the 13th minute through Pol Pla, setting up a nervy finish. However, a late penalty allowed Jone Kubu to kick the ball into touch after the hooter, sealing Shujaa’s hard-fought win.

The victory sets up a titanic final showdown against Fiji, scheduled for 2:41 PM Kenyan time. Kenya famously stunned the Fijians 30-7 in the 2016 Singapore Sevens final—a result they will be keen to replicate.

Despite a disappointing overall 2025-2026 season that will see them finish among the bottom four in the 12-team league, Shujaa have delivered a spirited Singapore campaign.

They beat Olympic champions France 10-7 in the pool stage, overcame Ireland 17-7 in the quarters, and now Spain in the semis.

Fiji, who dispatched Argentina 33-24 in their semi-final, carry a 14-match winning streak over Kenya. With the odds stacked against them, Shujaa will need to summon all their grit and flair to bring home another memorable win.
