Narok Leaders Oppose Proposed Airport on Private Land, Urge Relocation to Public Property

A section of leaders from Narok County have raised concerns over the proposed construction of an international airport on land allegedly associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta near the Maasai Mara.

The leaders argue that such a critical public infrastructure project should be established on public land within Narok County to benefit local communities.

Speaking during a public gathering in Siana Ward, Narok West Constituency, the leaders insisted that the airport must serve the broader interests of Narok residents particularly the youth who would benefit from employment opportunities linked to the project.

“We are saying, as Narok leaders, we will not allow an international airport to be built on land belonging to an individual. We want it to be built here in Narok so that our youth can get jobs,” stated Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ng’eno.

The international airport is expected to be launched by President William Ruto later this month as part of his development tour across the region.

The project has sparked political tension, with some leaders demanding transparency and public involvement in its implementation.

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, while urging unity and development focused dialogue, called on county leaders to seize the opportunity during the President’s visit to lobby for more projects in their respective constituencies.

“We want, when the President visits, for leaders to put politics aside and allow the President to bring development. The time for politics will come. We have said President Ruto is ten years without a break because we can see the work he is doing here in Narok,” said Governor Ntutu.

As the date for the project launch approaches, the debate continues to intensify, with leaders and residents alike waiting to see whether their concerns will be addressed.
