Kasarani detectives have arrested two men accused of running an online con that involved posing as glamorous female massage therapists, only to rob their unsuspecting clients in a bizarre twist of deception.
The suspects, Alex Mugo Wachira and Simon Chomba Mbogo, are said to have lured victims via online platforms with enticing advertisements offering “professional massage services.” But what seemed like a soothing experience turned into a harrowing ordeal for many.
One victim, drawn in by the promise of a deluxe massage session by two alluring women, made his way to the supposed spa residence along Lumumba Drive.
Instead of aromatherapy and soft music, he was met by the pair who, minutes into the session, pulled out knives and demanded money.
Under threat, the victim was coerced into transferring Sh280,000 via mobile money, stripped of his valuables, and tossed out of the premises.
Detectives launched investigations immediately. With help from digital forensic tools, the suspects were tracked down and arrested while reportedly enjoying the fruits of their fraud at a leisure spot near Kamiti prison.
The two are currently in police custody as they undergo processing, with charges expected to be filed soon. Police are urging any additional victims to come forward.
The incident has reignited warnings about the dangers of online scams and the importance of verifying service providers, especially in personal service industries.
