Hundreds of Christians gathered in Nairobi on Good Friday, led by Archbishop Philip Anyolo of the Holy Family Minor Basilica, to commemorate the Passion of Christ through a solemn procession across the city.
The faithful began their walk at the Basilica—seat of the Archbishop—and moved through Thika Road, Limuru Road, Mamlaka Road, and Uhuru Highway before returning to the church. The event was marked by prayer, hymns, and moments of reflection on the suffering, crucifixion, and death of Jesus Christ.
This annual tradition, deeply rooted in the liturgical life of the Catholic Church, was particularly vibrant this year thanks to the enthusiastic involvement of the youth from the Basilica parish, known as Serving Christ.
Addressing the congregation, Archbishop Anyolo urged Kenyans to embrace peace and unity, especially in these challenging times. “Let us remain peaceful, and I call upon our political leaders to be agents of peace,” he said.
He reminded the faithful that Christ’s suffering, endured out of boundless love, is a powerful symbol of hope and redemption. “As the Church around the world reflects on Christ’s Passion, may it inspire us to walk in love, faith, forgiveness, and the hope of eternal life promised—especially in this Jubilee Year.”
He concluded by encouraging Christians to never lose sight of the Cross as a symbol of unconditional love—one we are called to extend to each other, especially to those most in need.
