Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has poured cold water on growing speculation that he is at odds with the club’s hierarchy, insisting he remains fully committed to the team’s goals for the remainder of the season.
Ancelotti has found himself under intense scrutiny following Madrid’s crushing 5-1 aggregate defeat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals—a loss that has sparked widespread rumours of an impending managerial change.
Reports suggest the club is eyeing Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as a potential successor, with plans to bring him in ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup. However, any such move could cost Real Madrid upwards of €10 million in compensation.
Despite the noise, Ancelotti was firm in his stance during a recent press conference, stating: “There’s no confrontation with the club. We’re all in the same boat.” He emphasized his strong relationship with club president Florentino Perez, quashing suggestions of internal friction.
The veteran Italian tactician, a five-time Champions League winner, remains focused on domestic success. Madrid are preparing for the Copa del Rey final against arch-rivals Barcelona on April 26, and still have a shot at clinching the La Liga title, though they trail leaders Barcelona by seven points.
“We’re still united, we have a great relationship. We’re all thinking the same way, which is to keep fighting for the trophies we have left,” Ancelotti said.
He refused to entertain further questions about his future, promising that discussions with the club would take place after the season ends. For now, Ancelotti’s attention is fixed on the next challenge: a critical La Liga clash against Athletic Club as the title race tightens.
Whether he stays or goes, Ancelotti is determined to finish strong.
