Bayern Munich were denied the chance to clinch the Bundesliga title on Saturday after Yussuf Poulsen’s stoppage-time equaliser secured RB Leipzig a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Red Bull Arena.
Vincent Kompany’s side looked to have mounted a stunning second-half comeback, but Poulsen’s cool chip over Jonas Urbig in the 94th minute postponed what could have been Bayern’s crowning moment.
Leipzig stormed into a two-goal lead thanks to a delicate lob from Benjamin Sesko in the 11th minute and Lukas Klostermann’s composed finish before the break. However, Bayern roared back into the contest after half-time.
Michael Olise played a central role in the comeback, first delivering a pinpoint corner for Eric Dier to nod in, then combining with Serge Gnabry before slotting home an equaliser within moments.
Leroy Sane seemed to have won it for Bayern in the 83rd minute with a powerful strike, only for Leipzig to break Bayern hearts with virtually the last kick of the game.
Despite accumulating 1.56 expected goals to Leipzig’s 0.90, Bayern left Saxony with just a point, meaning they must now wait to see if Bayer Leverkusen slip up against Freiburg on Sunday.
Sesko’s strike extended his scoring run against Bayern to three straight league matches. Meanwhile, Olise’s 13th assist of the season sets a new Bundesliga record for a Bayern debutant.
Bayern can still seal the title when they host Borussia Monchengladbach next Saturday — if Leverkusen fail to close the gap.
