Bukayo Saka has heaped praise on Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, calling his recent Champions League heroics “not normal” for a 17-year-old.
But the Arsenal winger made it clear he won’t be comparing himself to Europe’s rising stars.
Yamal lit up the first leg of Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final with a dazzling solo goal in a 3-3 draw against Inter Milan — becoming the youngest-ever scorer in the competition’s last four. It was also his 100th appearance for the club since debuting in April 2023.
“He’s top,” Saka told Sky Sports. “Doing what he’s doing at his age, what can you say — it’s unreal. No-one does it.”
Yamal’s rapid rise has drawn comparisons with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, as he became only the second teenager after the Frenchman to score in the last 16, quarters, and semis of a single Champions League season.
Arsenal, who trail 1-0 to PSG after a narrow first-leg defeat, could face Barcelona in the final if they stage a comeback in Paris. However, Saka is focused on his team’s immediate goals rather than individual accolades.
“I don’t like to put myself in those conversations,” he said. “I just play my own games.”
With the Premier League title gone to Liverpool, Arsenal’s hopes now rest on securing a Champions League final spot. They face Bournemouth on Saturday before their decisive trip to Paris on Wednesday.
“The dream is always the Ballon d’Or,” Saka admitted. “But winning here comes first.”
