The government has successfully registered more than 22 million Kenyans under the Social Health Authority (SHA), marking a significant step forward in the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
During a Social Sector National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) meeting held in Nairobi on Tuesday, Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga announced that SHA’s digital infrastructure is now fully operational, enabling efficient nationwide service delivery.
“Healthcare providers have already served 1.2 million Kenyans, with claims amounting to Kshs 45 billion processed,” said Dr. Oluga. He emphasized that SHA is transforming health financing in the country and providing a crucial safety net for Kenyans vulnerable to financial hardship due to medical expenses.
The NDIC meeting, chaired by Labour and Skills Development Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime, convened leaders from 13 State Departments. The forum is responsible for monitoring progress and ensuring the coordinated implementation of critical social sector initiatives.
