UDA Expels Senator Gloria Orwoba Over ‘Gross Violations’

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from its membership, citing violations of the party’s Code of Conduct.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), during a meeting held on May 19, 2025, ratified the decision by the Disciplinary Committee to sever ties with Orwoba. The action followed Disciplinary Complaint No. 2 of 2025, filed by Festus Omwamba and Henry Muriithi, which accused the senator of actions deemed inconsistent with UDA’s core values.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed that the party has formally communicated Orwoba’s expulsion to the Speaker of the Senate, the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP), and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), effectively beginning the process of her removal from Parliament.

In her place, the party has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to occupy the now-vacant seat in the Senate.

While reaffirming its commitment to constitutional freedoms, UDA emphasized the importance of loyalty and fidelity to party ideals. “One cannot play for two political teams simultaneously,” Omar noted, suggesting Orwoba’s conduct was at odds with the party’s expectations.

Orwoba, known for her vocal and sometimes controversial political stance, is yet to publicly respond to the expulsion.

As political tides shift, the development marks a significant moment for UDA as it reinforces internal discipline ahead of upcoming political contests.
