Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Sunkuyia has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of forging academic documents, including a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate.
According to a statement by the EACC, Sunkuyia is accused of presenting a falsified KCSE certificate to secure admission to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in 2012. The document, bearing Serial No. 2988068 and indicating a mean grade of C+, was reportedly submitted to the university’s Registrar of Academic Affairs on January 30, 2012.

The anti-corruption body stated that the certificate was fraudulently presented as a genuine one issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). The charge sheet, seen by KBC Digital, outlines multiple offenses, including providing false information to a public body, forgery, and uttering a false document.

EACC officers apprehended the lawmaker early Monday and confirmed that preparations were underway to arraign him in court later in the day. If found guilty, the MP could face severe legal consequences, including imprisonment and removal from public office.
The arrest marks a significant development in ongoing efforts by the EACC to root out academic fraud and uphold integrity in public service. Further updates on the court proceedings are expected to follow.
