President William Ruto used his Madaraka Day address to highlight sweeping developments in Kenya’s infrastructure sector; a critical pillar in his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
“In just two and a half years, we have constructed 1,800 kilometers of new tarmac roads and maintained over 1,340 kilometers,” Ruto declared, noting that this milestone exceeds government targets.
He emphasized that these roads are lifelines for rural communities, opening up access to markets, agricultural zones, schools, and healthcare.
In a major boost to regional integration and trade, President Ruto confirmed that discussions on extending the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu and eventually to Malaba have been successfully concluded.
The expansion promises to connect Kenya’s heartland to the East African Community transport network, slashing cargo costs and driving exports.
Ruto also revealed that construction will begin in July on a new dual carriageway from Rironi to Mau Summit, eventually linking Eldoret to Malava, another move expected to ease transport flow and boost economic activity in the Western Corridor.
