Gachagua Chairs First DCP Party NEC: Says June Launch Still In The Works

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is pressing forward with plans to officially launch this June, despite being denied access to Kasarani Stadium for its debut event.

The announcement was made following DCP’s first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at its Lavington headquarters.

Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala confirmed that the party is currently evaluating alternative venues for a gathering expected to attract nearly 50,000 supporters.

“Though we were denied Kasarani for June 3, our momentum is undeterred. The party launch will happen this month,” Malala assured reporters.

He revealed that a technical committee had been formed to assess potential venues and deliver a decision shortly.

The NEC also laid foundational structures for DCP’s growth, including forming aspirants’ forums in all counties to coordinate the party’s push toward the 2027 General Election.

“These forums will drive a national membership drive and consolidate our grassroots presence,” Malala explained.

In a move to tighten party discipline, the NEC issued a directive barring individuals from opening party offices without express approval from the secretariat.

“We are building an organised and accountable movement. Rogue office openings will not be tolerated,” he emphasized.

The DCP had initially booked Kasarani Gymnasium for Sh3.7 million, with plans for a high-energy launch featuring speeches, performances, and unveiling of its manifesto.

However, Sports Kenya declined the request, citing CHAN 2025 preparations.

Former KICC chair and party official Irungu Nyakera responded defiantly, stating, “You can deny us a venue, but not our voice. DCP is rising.”
