Gor Mahia Vice Chairperson Sally Bolo has raised the alarm over widespread gate fraud by fans, following disappointing gate revenues from the much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards.

Despite a packed stadium in Homa Bay, the derby generated just KSh. 2,152,700 in gate collections, a figure Bolo says is shockingly low given the magnitude of the fixture. In a candid Facebook post, she accused some Gor Mahia supporters of bribing stewards and police officers to gain entry without purchasing tickets.

“It’s sad that some of our own would rather bribe a steward or police officer than buy a valid ticket. The stadium fills up, yet the gate collection is embarrassingly low,” Bolo lamented.

Her comments follow confirmation of the revenue by club treasurer Gerphas Okuku, who reiterated that the low figure fell short of expectations for such a high-profile match. The concern is amplified by the fact that Shabana FC managed to collect KSh. 5 million in their recent match against Gor Mahia at Gusii Stadium.

Bolo emphasized that gate charges are not merely contributions, but critical investments in the team’s sustainability. “Let’s stop cheating the badge we claim to love. Let’s hold ourselves to a higher standard,” she urged, calling on the ‘Green Army’ to show their loyalty through honesty and accountability.

Her appeal reflects a broader push within the Kenya Premier League for clubs to achieve financial independence, where fan support extends beyond chants and colours to concrete, ethical backing of club operations.

As Gor Mahia aims to chart a stable future, the message from its leadership is clear: real support begins at the gate.
