NAIROBI, June 4, 2025 — Two suspects linked to the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were will be detained at Kamiti Maximum Prison while undergoing mental assessment at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The directive was issued by Justice Margaret Waringa Muigai during a virtual session at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
The accused, Allan Omondi Ogolla and Isaac Kuria, appeared before the court from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, where they are currently in custody.
During the proceedings, the defense requested time for a mental evaluation of the accused, noting that while such assessments are typically conducted at Mbagathi Hospital, the complexity of the case warranted referral to Mathari Hospital.
The defense also indicated that additional suspects may be arraigned in connection with the case and requested that each be presented separately to ensure thorough investigation and hospital processing.
Justice Muigai granted the application and directed that the assessments be completed within 14 days.
The court further instructed the Criminal Division to facilitate legal representation for the accused through the Pro Bono Committee.
The matter will be mentioned on June 18, 2025, for further directions.
