MP Jared Okello Accuses Gachagua Camp of Orchestrating Heckling Against DP Kindiki in Nyeri

Nyando MP Jared Okello has alleged that allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua orchestrated the heckling of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki during a public event in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Wednesday.

Kindiki, who was presiding over an empowerment event, faced a hostile reception from a section of the crowd, with chants of “one term” erupting from across the venue’s perimeter. MP Okello, speaking to Citizen TV on Thursday, claimed the disruption was a calculated political attack by what he termed the “Wamunyoro team”—a faction allegedly linked to opposition meetings held at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence.

“This was not happenstance,” Okello stated. “It came just a day after President Ruto and DP Kindiki received a thunderous welcome in Homa Bay. The Wamunyoro team is clearly still struggling to recover from the failed impeachment effort.”

Okello insisted that the youths who disrupted the event were strategically placed outside the fence, a tactic he claimed is commonly used by political factions to cause disruptions while avoiding direct confrontation. “You can see those boys were not inside the venue. That’s a clear indicator of hired goons,” he said.

The MP further argued that Gachagua’s allies are uncomfortable with President William Ruto’s growing national appeal, particularly in regions previously considered opposition strongholds. “What was once the belief that President Ruto would be a one-term president is quickly fading. The momentum is clearly shifting,” he added.

The Wamunyoro group has recently aligned with key opposition figures including Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, forming a formidable political bloc ahead of the 2027 elections.

DP Kindiki has yet to comment publicly on the incident.
