A Member of the Kitui County Assembly (MCA) has been arrested in connection with the theft of mobile phone accessories valued at approximately Ksh.1.9 million.
Cyrus Musyoka Kisavi, the MCA representing Ikanga Ward, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon after investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) analyzed CCTV footage allegedly linking him to the theft. The incident occurred on February 8, 2025, at Buscar Courier Services located along Nairobi’s River Road.
According to the DCI, surveillance footage showed Musyoka walking away with a parcel that was en route to a client in Mombasa. The package, which contained high-value phone accessories, had earlier been reported missing by the courier company’s management.
“The arrest followed a positive identification after CCTV footage of the scene was analyzed, which captured the suspect leaving with the parcel destined for a client in Mombasa,” read a statement from the DCI.
Musyoka, who did not initially reveal his status as an elected official, was apprehended by the courier company’s security personnel after he was spotted at the same River Road office. He was later handed over to officers at Central Police Station, where his identity was confirmed.
Following his identification, the MCA was transferred to Mombasa, where detectives handling the case are continuing investigations and preparing charges.
The arrest has sparked discussions about integrity and accountability among public officials, especially at the county level. Neither Musyoka nor his legal representatives have issued a public statement as of the time of reporting.
