A devastating fire claimed the lives of two young children in Gathunuka village, Nyeri County, on Friday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The victims, aged 3 and 6, were reportedly alone in their home when the blaze broke out. According to local reports, their parent had left for work earlier in the day and returned to find the house engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene but were unable to save the children, as the fire had already consumed most of the structure. The charred remains of the house stood as a grim reminder of the tragedy that unfolded.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time. Forensic teams are expected to conduct a thorough analysis of the site to uncover what may have triggered the deadly blaze.
The bodies of the two children were transported to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital morgue as the community mourns the heartbreaking loss.
Local leaders have expressed their condolences and called for increased public awareness on fire safety, particularly in households with young children.
