The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has achieved a major milestone in environmental and workplace safety management, earning two prestigious ISO certifications awarded by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Moi International Airport (MIA), and the KAA Head Office were granted ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications, marking KAA’s leadership in sustainable airport operations and staff welfare.
The ISO 14001:2015 certification highlights KAA’s commitment to responsible environmental management practices, including efficient waste handling, water and energy conservation, reduction of carbon emissions, and control of noise and air pollution. “This certification affirms our proactive approach to environmental stewardship,” said KAA in a statement.
Simultaneously, the ISO 45001:2018 certification recognizes KAA’s high standards in occupational health and safety, underscoring its dedication to protecting the well-being of airport staff, contractors, and other stakeholders.
These certifications are in line with KAA’s 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, which identifies Environmental Stewardship as a foundational pillar. “By attaining these ISO standards, KAA has successfully integrated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles into daily operations, setting a benchmark for effective management and continual improvement,” the authority stated.
KAA also confirmed that it will undergo regular surveillance audits to maintain compliance and enhance its EHS performance across all certified facilities.
