Super Petrol Price Rises as Diesel, Kerosene Drop in Latest EPRA Review

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a mixed adjustment in fuel prices, with the cost of Super Petrol increasing even as Diesel and Kerosene prices decline.

In its latest monthly review released on Saturday night, EPRA stated that Super Petrol will now retail at Kshs.177.32 per litre in Nairobi, reflecting a Kshs.2.69 increase. Conversely, Diesel and Kerosene prices have dropped by Kshs.1.95 and Kshs.2.06 respectively, with new prices set at Kshs.162.91 and Kshs.146.93 per litre.

The new prices, which will be in effect for the next 30 days, are inclusive of a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as mandated by the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation under Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol increases by KShs.2.69 per litre while Diesel and Kerosene decrease by KShs.1.95 and KShs.2.06 per litre respectively,” EPRA said in a statement.

The review comes amid fluctuating global oil prices and local tax adjustments, factors that continue to impact fuel costs across the country.
