Shoes could be a carrier of Corona virus if not properly washed and disinfected, a research shows.

A recent research conducted in one of the centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s journals on Emerging Infectious Diseases, researchers tested air on surface samples at a hospital in Wuhan, China where the corona virus outbreak initiated.

The researchers found that about half of health-care professionals working in intensive care units carried the virus on the soles of their shoes. Further, the report showed that there was a 100% positive rate from the floor of the pharmacy, where only health care workers traveled, not infected patients.

“Therefore, the soles of the medical staff shoes might function as carriers,” the researchers wrote. “ we highly recommend that persons disinfect shoe soles before walking out of wards containing COVID-19 patients.”

There is no advisory yet on the best method for cleaning shoes to best protect against the corona virus, but cleaning shoes properly with a disinfectant could destroy the virus or the use of soap and water in cleaning shoes.

Whenever one comes with their shoes from outside it is advised that you should leave them out of the house and clean them with disinfected water just in case you walked on surfaces with Corona Virus.
