Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba has resigned in a surprise move, at a time when political tensions peaked in the county over efforts to impeach Governor Abdi Guyo.
In a resignation latter dated June 17, 2025, Roba cited personal reasons and invoked provisions from the County Government Act, Elections Act and Assembly Standing Orders. His resignation took effect on June 17.
“I hereby tender my resignation as the Speaker of Isiolo County Assembly effective from 17th June 2025 due to personal reasons,” read part of his resignation letter.
Roba expressed his gratitude to honorable members and staff for support they showed him during his tenure.
“I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the honorable members of the Isiolo County Assembly and the staff of Isiolo County Assembly Service Board for the support they have accorded to me during the period I was the speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly and the chairperson of the County Assembly Service Board and I wish you all the best as you discharge your esteemed duties,” he added.
The letter recieved by the clerk of the County Assembly on 18th June 2025 has since been acknowledged, paving the way for the assembly to find his replacement.
