Golden Boot in Sight: Amunyolet Eyes Top Scorer’s Prize at CECAFA Women’s Championship

Kenya's Martha Amunyolet celebrates her goal against Burundi during their CECAFA Championship opener in Dar es Salaam on June 15, 2025. Harambee Starlets won 3-0.

Harambee Starlets striker Martha Amunyolet has set her sights on the Golden Boot as Kenya continues its dominant run in the ongoing CECAFA Women’s Championship in Tanzania.

Amunyolet has already netted three goals in the tournament, scoring in Kenya’s convincing 3-0 win over Burundi and the emphatic 4-0 triumph against Uganda. With her clinical finishing and sharp attacking instincts, the forward has emerged as one of the standout performers for the Starlets.

“I want it,” Amunyolet said of the top scorer’s award. “In both matches against Burundi and Uganda, I targeted to score goals and I succeeded. The games haven’t been easy, but we’ve played with dedication, and I’m glad we scored convincingly.”

She added that while her personal goal is to claim the Golden Boot, her primary focus remains helping the team win the tournament. “It would be double joy to lift the trophy and win the Golden Boot.”

Kenya currently sits joint-top of Group B with six points, tied with hosts Tanzania but trailing on goal difference. The Starlets head into Thursday’s fixture against winless South Sudan full of confidence after two commanding victories. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Azam Complex.

South Sudan has endured a difficult campaign so far, suffering heavy losses, 4-0 to Tanzania and 5-0 to Uganda, making Kenya strong favourites to extend their winning streak.

Amunyolet will be keen to add to her tally and strengthen her claim for the Golden Boot as the Starlets continue their quest for regional glory.
