Kenya emerged among the leading performers at the 10th Continental Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations, clinching three coveted awards for excellence in public service innovation during a gala dinner held on Monday, June 23, in Addis Ababa
The biennial event, themed “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps,” brought together public sector trailblazers from across Africa to showcase groundbreaking solutions and share strategies for improving public service delivery.
Kenya’s winning entries included:
- Best Innovation in Service Delivery – 1st Place: Poultry Melovax by Tharaka University
- Most Accountable & Transparent Organization – 1st Runners-up: Jaza Miti Initiative by the Kenya Forestry Research Institute
- Best Pavilion – 2nd Runners-up: Team Kenya Exhibition Stand
In addition to the award winners, several other Kenyan institutions received praise for their innovations, including:
- State Department for Internal Security & National Administration: Automated Reporting Management Information System (ARMIS)
- Baringo National Polytechnic: Water Recycling Innovation
- Huduma Kenya: Universal Agent Model
- Kenya Ports Authority: KARGOPAY Innovation
- Kisiwa National Polytechnic: Five Functional Bed Innovation
Kenya’s delegation was led by Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, who applauded the country’s performance. She noted that the accolades reinforce Kenya’s position as a continental leader in public service transformation.
“This is a proud moment for Kenya. These recognitions affirm our commitment to innovative, transparent, and citizen-centered service delivery,” Dr. Imbunya said.
The APSD celebrations also featured high-level symposia and exhibitions where countries exchanged best practices and discussed forward-looking strategies to address longstanding service delivery challenges.
