Ministry of Health Deploys Over 6,400 Healthcare Interns to Boost Service Delivery

The Ministry of Health has announced the deployment of 6,484 healthcare interns across the country as part of the 2025/2026 internship programme, marking a significant step towards strengthening Kenya’s health workforce.

The announcement was made by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a robust healthcare system through continued investment in training and workforce development.

“This milestone reflects our ongoing dedication to developing a reliable pipeline of skilled, hands-on professionals to support health service delivery across the country,” said CS Duale.

The interns will be posted to accredited health facilities nationwide, where they will undergo a 12-month structured internship designed to offer supervised clinical training and practical experience in real healthcare settings.

The distribution of interns by professional cadre is as follows:

  • 1,147 Medical Officer interns
  • 87 Dentist interns
  • 500 Pharmacist interns
  • 659 Bachelor of Science Clinical Officer interns
  • 1,993 Diploma Clinical Officer interns
  • 2,098 Bachelor of Science Nursing Officer interns

According to the Ministry, these postings are crucial for enhancing healthcare services, especially in underserved regions, while equipping interns with essential clinical skills and real-world exposure.

All eligible pre-interns have been advised to collect their internship offer letters in person on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Health Headquarters – Afya House, Nairobi.

The Ministry has emphasized that posting letters will only be issued upon presentation of a valid National Identity Card, and has urged interns to collect their letters promptly to allow for seamless reporting and preparation at their designated facilities.

CS Duale called on all interns to approach their duties with professionalism and dedication, noting that this internship period is not only vital for their career development but also instrumental in advancing the country’s efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
