A major drug trafficking operation was thwarted in Narok County on Tuesday after police intercepted a vehicle ferrying bhang from Kisii to Nairobi. However, the two suspected traffickers managed to escape and are currently on the run.
According to a police report, officers from Ntulele Police Station in Narok East flagged down a suspicious Toyota Land Cruiser Prado along the Narok–Mai Mahiu highway, but the driver ignored their orders to stop, triggering a high-speed chase.
The pursuit came to a halt when the vehicle developed mechanical problems and was abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road. The two occupants fled into nearby maize plantations and remain at large.
“Police officers intercepted a Toyota Prado suspected of transporting narcotics. The suspects abandoned the vehicle after it broke down and fled the scene,” the report stated.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of three sacks containing 600 brooms of bhang, confirming suspicions of drug trafficking. The vehicle has since been towed to Ntulele Police Station, and the narcotics secured as exhibits in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the two suspects and have urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking along key transit routes into Nairobi.
