President William Ruto on Wednesday addressed members of the Kenyan Diaspora during a townhall meeting in London, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to development, job creation, and responsible governance.
During the session, Ruto was questioned about the growing perception that early 2027 election campaigns are distracting leaders from delivering essential services. Acknowledging the concerns, the President called on politicians to shift their focus back to governance.
“Kenya is a work in progress every day,” he said. “Elections are a one-day event. We must focus on building the country instead of being trapped in perpetual campaign mode.”
Addressing concerns about the welfare of Kenyans working abroad, Ruto pledged to streamline labor migration processes and ensure that citizens seeking jobs overseas are not forced to travel under student or tourist visas.
“No Kenyan going to work outside will travel using a student or tourist visa,” Ruto assured. “We must have a record so that if they are in distress or doing undignified work, we can support them.”
In line with his visit’s broader agenda, Ruto also held discussions with the Tony Blair Institute to explore strategic collaborations. The talks focused on governance reforms, economic partnerships, and capacity building.
The President further emphasized Kenya’s global competitiveness in green manufacturing, reaffirming the country’s commitment to decarbonization and sustainable development.
“Kenya is well-positioned to be a destination for green energy and green products,” he said. “As the world looks for low-carbon alternatives, our advantage is clear.”
Ruto’s UK tour continues as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic ties, attract investment, and engage the Kenyan Diaspora in the country’s development agenda.
