Embu County Women Representative Pamela Njoki Njeru has moved to clarify reports surrounding a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday involving a vehicle in President William Ruto’s motorcade.
In a viral video seen by Uzalendo News, Njoki dismissed earlier claims linking the accident directly to the President’s convoy.
Instead, she revealed that the vehicle involved in the fatal crash belonged to the NSSF Chairman David Kariuki and collided with her own car before veering off the road and hitting a bodaboda rider and his passenger, killing both.
“It was not the President’s car, as widely speculated. The escort vehicle struck my car, lost control, and sadly, lives were lost. It is tragic and deeply saddening,” Njoki stated.
The accident took place shortly after President Ruto and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire had attended a church service at Kigari College. The high-speed escort car was part of the extended presidential entourage when the incident occurred near Kavingaci Bridge, along the Embu–Meru Highway.
Witnesses say the vehicle, traveling at high speed, swerved, clipped the Woman Rep’s car, struck the motorcycle, and then plunged into a nearby river.
Traffic along the busy highway was brought to a standstill, as locals barricaded the road.
Authorities urged motorists to avoid the Gakwegori–Kangaru stretch and use alternative routes as investigations continue.
The identities of the deceased—the bodaboda rider and his passenger—are being withheld pending family notification. Njoki sent her condolences to the bereaved families, promising to support efforts toward justice.
Police have since launched a full investigation into the incident.
