Bayern’s Jamal Musiala Suffers Broken Leg and Dislocated Ankle in Club World Cup Clash with PSG

Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle in Saturday’s bruising FIFA Club World Cup semifinal defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22-year-old playmaker sustained the injury late in the first half after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma near the byline. Musiala, in visible agony, immediately clutched his left ankle and was stretchered off with his face buried in his shirt.

According to club officials, Musiala was quickly rushed to hospital in Doha for initial treatment before flying back to Munich for surgery.

“This serious injury and long absence are a real shock for Jamal and for all of us,” Bayern Sporting Director Max Eberl said in a statement. “Jamal is central to our team and our playing style. This is devastating, especially as he had just returned from another injury.”

Eberl assured fans that the club would provide Musiala with full support during his recovery, calling it not just a footballing loss, but a deeply human one.

The incident left players from both teams shaken, with Donnarumma visibly distressed after realising the extent of the injury. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer criticised the Italian goalkeeper for his “risky” play and urged him to show more respect.

“I told him, ‘It’s halftime, Jamal is badly hurt, you should go over and wish him well.’ That’s what sportsmanship is about,” Neuer said post-match.

Donnarumma later posted on social media: “All my prayers and well wishes are with you, Jamal.”

Musiala’s absence is a huge blow for both Bayern Munich and Germany, especially with the new European club season approaching. The talented midfielder had only recently returned to form and was expected to play a pivotal role in Bayern’s domestic and continental campaigns.
