Thousands of students, educators, and school administrators gathered today within the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a to mark the annual Education Day 2025, a vibrant celebration of academic excellence and inclusivity across Murang’a and Kirinyaga Counties.
The event was graced by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Most Rev. Hubertus Matheus Maria Van Megen, who joined Rt. Rev. James Maria Wainaina, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a, in leading the day’s proceedings.
The celebration drew attendees from a wide cross-section of society, including local education officials, clergy, teachers, and families.
In a ceremony marked by music, prayer, and powerful speeches, learners were recognised for their outstanding performance in academics, leadership, and co-curricular activities over the past year.
Special emphasis was placed on the achievements of differently abled learners, whose success stories earned rounds of applause and deep admiration from those present.
Speaking at the event, Archbishop Van Megen praised the resilience and determination of Kenyan learners and the commitment of educators who continue to shape the country’s future.
“Education is the heartbeat of society. Your pursuit of excellence reflects the hope and potential of this great nation,” he said.
Bishop Wainaina echoed the message, urging all stakeholders to foster a culture of discipline, faith, and hard work in schools.
“Let us walk together in service to our children, who are not just learners but tomorrow’s leaders,” he said.
Throughout the day, various schools showcased performances and innovations, underscoring the diverse talents within the region’s education system.
Organisers described the event as a resounding success, vowing to continue supporting inclusive education and academic progress.
The celebration concluded with prayers and blessings, as the community looked ahead to an even more fruitful academic year.
