The County Government of Kiambu and the Judiciary have today announced a joint initiative to rebuild the Kikuyu Law Courts, which were recently gutted by fire in a suspected arson attack.
The court, which serves thousands of residents in Kikuyu Sub-County and surrounding areas, has been a critical legal hub for the region. Its destruction dealt a major blow to access to justice, prompting swift action from both county and judicial leadership.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi hosted a delegation from the Judiciary at the county headquarters.

The team was led by Kiambu Presiding Judge Lady Justice Abigail Mushila, Kikuyu Law Courts Chief Magistrate Hon. Liz Gicheha, and the Chairperson of the Kiambu Chapter of the Law Society of Kenya, Ms Beth Fundi.
Governor Wamatangi affirmed the county government’s commitment to restoring the justice infrastructure, stating that reconstruction of the law courts would be undertaken concurrently with the rebuilding of the Kikuyu Municipality administration block, which was also affected by the same fire incident.
“This is a vital step towards restoring essential public services for the people of Kikuyu. Our collaboration with the Judiciary and legal fraternity underlines our shared commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring uninterrupted access to justice,” the governor said.
Justice Mushila expressed gratitude for the county’s swift response and underscored the importance of fast-tracking the rebuilding process to avoid backlog and ensure court operations resume without further delay.
The fire incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety and resilience of public infrastructure. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Meanwhile, plans are underway to provide temporary space for court operations to continue serving the public during the reconstruction period.
