AFC Leopards Set to Host Second Gala Awards in Bungoma

AFC Leopards, Kenya’s 12-time Premier League champions, are set to host the second edition of the AFC Leopards Awards Gala in Bungoma from July 21 to 26. The highly anticipated event is organized by the club’s U-45 branch and has received full backing from the National Executive Committee (NEC), led by Chairman Boniface Ambani.

Describing the gala as a critical platform for recognizing excellence, Ambani said, “The Gala is an important event for the club, and I support it because it’s the only time we truly appreciate our players, fans, and those who have been close to the team. The boys are upbeat and motivated.”

Club Secretary-General Isaac Mulindi echoed the sentiment, calling the gala a valuable opportunity for resource mobilization and fan engagement. “Our players will benefit, and fans will interact with the team. It’s a strong start for us as NEC, and we urge everyone to support it,” he stated.

U-45 branch chairman Olympia Musonye revealed that this year’s gala will feature 10 award categories—five more than last year—including Player of the Season, Top Scorer, Most Improved Player, Young Player of the Season, Fans’ Player of the Year, Club Legend Awards, and Special Recognition Awards for long-serving officials and sponsors.

In a move to increase fan involvement, organizers have introduced a unique incentive: every 10th ticket buyer will receive an exclusive invite to the main gala night. The event, set for Wanangali Grounds, will include in-stadium entertainment and a friendly match between AFC Leopards and Nzoia Sugar before transitioning into an evening dinner and award ceremony.

“We’re working closely with NEC to ensure smooth execution,” said Musonye. “We’re also planning interbranch tournaments across the country, from the Coast to Western Kenya, to enhance participation.”

Musonye urged all branches to remain united and focused on the club’s growth. “When we come together as branches, that’s already 90% of the work done. We must avoid unnecessary politics and keep Ingwe’s welfare at heart.”

The gala will be broadcast live on Citizen TV’s Roga Roga Show, promising fans across the nation a glimpse into the celebration of community, loyalty, and the enduring spirit of Ingwe.
