Uganda Government Gives High End Cars to its Traditional Elders

The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, has today launched the Traditional Leaders Enhancement Programme, a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening cultural institutions across the country.

In a ceremony held in Kampala, officials from the ministry unveiled the programme’s core component, the distribution of brand new vehicles to all recognized cultural leaders nationwide.

The move is intended to enhance the leaders’ capacity to effectively reach their subjects, foster stronger community engagement, and preserve Uganda’s rich cultural heritage.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, emphasized the crucial role traditional leaders play in unifying communities and promoting social development. “This programme is not just about vehicles; it is about recognizing the essential role our cultural institutions play in national cohesion and identity,” she said.

The vehicles are expected to boost mobility and logistical support for the leaders, enabling them to carry out their duties more efficiently, including conflict resolution, cultural education, and community mobilization.

Traditional leaders welcomed the gesture, terming it a long-overdue recognition of their relevance in modern governance and development. The initiative marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to integrate traditional leadership into Uganda’s broader development agenda.
