Senegal is set to host the 19th edition of the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF) this August in Dakar, bringing together over 6,000 global stakeholders from more than 90 countries. Themed “Africa’s Youth: Leading Collaboration, Innovation, and Implementation of Africa’s Food Systems Transformation,” the summit will spotlight the continent’s young leaders as catalysts for change in agriculture and food systems.
The high-level gathering is expected to feature Heads of State, ministers, investors, women and youth agripreneurs, researchers, and development partners. Senegal’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, Dr. Mabouba Diagne, emphasized the nation’s readiness and commitment to empowering youth and advancing sustainable food systems.
“With nearly 60% of Africa’s population under 25, youth are the most potent force shaping the continent’s future. We welcome the world to Dakar to co-create a resilient and inclusive food future,” said Dr. Diagne.
Agriculture is a cornerstone of Senegal’s economy, employing nearly 69% of the workforce and contributing around 17% of GDP. As a Sahelian country, Senegal has made major strides in irrigation, storage infrastructure, and climate-resilient farming, efforts that position it as a regional leader in food systems innovation.
Amath Pathe, Managing Director of the Africa Food Systems Forum, described the 2025 summit as a “catalyst” for youth engagement.
“This year’s convening will amplify youth voices, spark partnerships, and build momentum for Africa’s food systems transformation,” he said.
The summit is expected to host delegates from leading institutions including the African Union, UN agencies, major development partners, private sector players, academia, media, and farming communities. The government has committed to a seamless experience with strong security measures, visa facilitation, multilingual interpretation, and efficient logistics.
Online registration is now open at afs-forum.org/summit/2025.
Founded in 2010, the Africa Food Systems Forum is the continent’s premier platform for advancing agricultural transformation through policy reform, investment facilitation, and knowledge sharing.
