Marcus Rashford to Wear Iconic No. 14 Shirt at Barcelona

Marcus Rashford has officially joined FC Barcelona on loan from Manchester United until June 30, 2026, with the deal including an option to buy.

As the England international settles into life in Catalonia, it has been confirmed he will wear the No. 14 shirt during his stay— a number with rich, if varied, history at the Spanish club.

Rashford’s move follows months of speculation, with interest from Barcelona intensifying after the forward fell out of favour under United boss Ruben Amorim in December 2024. A brief loan spell at Aston Villa saw Rashford wear the No. 9 shirt, but now, as he embarks on a new chapter in La Liga, he takes on the No. 14—never previously worn by him during his two-decade-long association with United.

At Manchester United, Rashford rose through the ranks wearing 39 and 19 before becoming the iconic No. 10 in 2018. However, that number has since been claimed by Matheus Cunha following Rashford’s exile.

Barcelona, meanwhile, waited until Pablo Torre completed his move to Mallorca earlier this summer before assigning Rashford the 14 shirt. The number carries mixed fortunes at Camp Nou. Thierry Henry remains the most illustrious player to have worn it, followed by defensive stalwart Javier Mascherano. In more recent years, however, the shirt has seen a rotation of flair players—including Philippe Coutinho, Malcom, Memphis Depay, and João Félix—struggle to make a lasting impact.

Interestingly, while Johan Cruyff is forever associated with No. 14, he never wore it at Barcelona, instead donning the No. 9. It was his son, Jordi Cruyff, who briefly wore 14 during his own stint at the club.

Barcelona fans will now be watching closely to see if Rashford can revive his career and bring fresh glory to the No. 14 shirt.
