Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has officially unveiled his final 25-man squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking Kenya’s historic first appearance in the continental tournament, which kicks off on August 3 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The squad is a bold mix of experience and rising local talent, with notable inclusions such as Shabana FC’s breakout forward Austin ‘Musa’ Odongo, Posta Rangers’ goal-poacher Felix Oluoch Mboya, and veteran striker Masoud Juma making a return to the national fold.
In goal, McCarthy has called up Gor Mahia’s new signing Bryne Omondi, Kariobangi Sharks’ Sebastian Wekesa, and seasoned Bandari keeper Faruk Shikalo. The defensive unit features Gor Mahia pair Sylvester Owino and Alphonce Omija, Kenya Police fullbacks Daniel Sakari and Abud Omar, former Bandari left-back Siraj Mohamed, and Tusker’s Michael Kibwage. KCB’s Manzur Suleiman and Kevin Okumu, along with AFC Leopards’ Lewis Bandi, round out a solid backline.
Midfield is anchored by Gor Mahia’s trio of Ben Stanley, Alpha Onyango, and Austin Odhiambo, supported by Kenya Police’s Brian Musa and Marvin Nabwire. Up front, the Stars will look to Tusker’s Ryan Ogam, Ulinzi’s Boniface Muchiri, Police striker Mohamed Bajaber, and Bandari’s David Sakwa to provide attacking firepower.
Speaking at Nyayo National Stadium during training, McCarthy praised the team’s preparation and commitment. “The lads have stepped up the intensity. I’m pleased with how they’ve responded to the technical bench. I’m confident we’ll be ready to represent the country well at CHAN,” he said.
Kenya has been drawn in a tough Group A alongside African giants DR Congo, Angola, Morocco, and Zambia. All matches, including the final, will be played at Kasarani, giving the Stars a critical home advantage.
With McCarthy optimistic and the squad fully focused, Kenya will be banking on crowd support and tactical discipline as they aim for a dream debut in the prestigious tournament.
