Saba Saba: Suspect Faces Charges For Stealing Steel Drum Caps

David Njoroge was on Tuesday arraigned at the Thika Law Courts, where he faced charges of theft and malicious damage to property in connection with an incident that occurred in early July in Thika West.

According to court documents, Njoroge, alongside unidentified accomplices who are yet to be apprehended, is accused of stealing two metallic cup drums; one blue and one maroon — valued at KSh 3,000.

The items were reported to belong to a person identified only as Royal. The alleged theft took place on July 7, 2025, in Kiariminu Sub-location, Thika West Sub-county.

The prosecution further stated that after stealing the drums, Njoroge willfully destroyed them, leading to an additional charge of malicious damage to property.

Appearing before the magistrate, Njoroge pleaded guilty to both charges, admitting to the offense. He did not offer a defense or mitigation statement during the brief court session.

The prosecution requested that the court set a later date to allow time for the recovered items to be presented as evidence. The drums were not available in court at the time of the plea.

In response, the magistrate granted the prosecution’s request and scheduled the next mention of the case for September 28, 2025. Njoroge was released on a cash bail of KSh 10,000 pending the next court appearance.

The case adds to a growing number of petty theft incidents reported in the Thika region in recent months, prompting calls for increased community vigilance.
