Harambee Stars Coach Benny McCarthy Rings Changes Ahead of CHAN Opener

With just four days to go before Harambee Stars kick off their CHAN 2024 campaign, head coach Benny McCarthy has made three more last-minute changes to his squad, further shaking up the team ahead of their Group A opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Police FC forward Mohamed Bajaber has been dropped from the squad, joined by his club teammate Brian Musa and Bandari FC defender Swaleh Pamba. Their exit brings to five the total number of key players who have left the team in the last two weeks.

In their place, McCarthy has called up Shabana FC’s Brian Michira, Crispin Erambo from Tusker FC, and Edward Omondi of Sofapaka. All three are expected to report to the team’s training camp immediately as preparations intensify.

McCarthy has not given official reasons for the sudden changes, but insiders suggest a combination of form, tactical adjustments, and internal discipline issues may have influenced the decisions.

“These are tough calls,” a source close to the technical bench noted. “But Benny wants players who can execute his vision under pressure.”

The Harambee Stars will face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, August 3rd, at the Kasarani Stadium in what promises to be a high-stakes clash. Kenya is in Group A alongside Congo, Sudan, and Libya.

Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see how the reshuffled squad performs under McCarthy, who has been tasked with guiding Kenya to its best-ever performance at the continental tournament reserved for players active in domestic leagues.
