Renowned Reggae Hypemaster MC Fullstop Dies After Battle with TB

Kenya’s reggae fraternity is in mourning following the death of celebrated hypemaster John Maina, popularly known as MC Fullstop, after a long battle with lung tuberculosis.

MC Fullstop, a vibrant voice in Kenya’s reggae scene, passed away after months of battling complications linked to lung TB—a condition that had severely affected his health and left him with lasting damage, including the loss of his voice and one of his lungs.

The reggae icon rose to fame through his electrifying performances and unique hyping style on television and at popular reggae events. He became a household name in Kenya’s entertainment circles, remembered for energizing crowds and popularizing reggae shows even before the digital era, when music was distributed on CDs.

Rumors surrounding his health had circulated online earlier this year, prompting MC Fullstop to come out publicly to dismiss false reports of his death. In one of his last public statements, he urged fans not to spread unverified information and thanked them for their prayers and support during his difficult time.

Photos of a visibly frail Fullstop in hospital sparked an outpouring of concern from fans, with many offering well-wishes and standing in solidarity with him throughout his illness.

Renowned mixmaster Deejay Juan confirmed the news to TUKO.co.ke, saying, “He has left us. He was in the hospital.”

As of now, the family is yet to release an official statement or funeral arrangements.

MC Fullstop’s death marks the end of an era in Kenya’s reggae culture. Tributes continue to pour in for the beloved entertainer, remembered not only for his voice but for the spirit he brought to every show.
