House Committee Subpoenas The Clintons in Epstein Probe

The US House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas for depositions with former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton as part of its expanding investigation into the sex trafficking network of Jeffrey Epstein.

The Republican-controlled committee has also demanded files from the Department of Justice, along with testimony from eight former senior law enforcement officials. The latest move deepens the years-long inquiry into Epstein’s activities and any potential connections to high-ranking figures.

Donald Trump, who was photographed and filmed socialising with Epstein in the 1990s, has denied knowing about his crimes and insists he severed ties with him long before the financier was first investigated. A widely shared video showing Trump and Epstein at a 1992 party continues to draw attention.

Epstein died in a federal jail in New York in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The official ruling was suicide, but his death has fuelled ongoing speculation and conspiracy theories. Public pressure has mounted over what evidence was collected and who may have been involved or aware of his actions.

Last month, Republicans on the committee also issued a subpoena for an interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a prison sentence for her role in recruiting underage girls for Epstein. She was recently transferred to a new facility in Texas.

President Clinton previously confirmed he flew on Epstein’s private jet but stated through a spokesperson that he never visited Epstein’s homes and had no knowledge of his crimes. He has not been accused of wrongdoing by any of the women who say they were abused by Epstein.

The committee has also asked for all communications between the Justice Department and the Biden administration related to Epstein, signalling that political tensions around the case are far from over.
