CHAN 2024: Avoid Thika Road on Thursday unless you are going to Kasarani Stadium

    The National Police Service has announced road closures and diversions on Thursday in Nairobi during the second match day of Group “A” teams in the 2024 African Nations Championships.

    The Officer Commanding Traffic, Nairobi County, Joseph Chirchir, has urged the public to avoid using Thika Road unless they are going to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on the day.

    Harambee Stars are scheduled to play Angola on Thursday at the 48,000-seater Kasarani facility from 7pm.  Tickets for the fixture sold out on Tuesday.

    According to the update by Traffic, road users using Aerodrome Road from Madaraka roundabout will be expected to use an alternative road on Thursday; likewise, users using the Bunyala roundabout are also advised to take other alternative routes.

    “Road closure: Aerodrome Road from Madaraka roundabout up to Bunyala roundabout,” Chirchir said.

    On the other hand, motorists using Lang’ata Road from Madaraka roundabout to Lusaka roundabout have been advised to take other routes since the main roads will be closed down.

    In addition, Traffic is calling upon Mombasa road users using the Lusaka roundabout to manoeuvre using alternatives that have been provided by the department.

    “Langata Road from Madaraka roundabout to Lusaka roundabout (one side), Mombasa Road from Lusaka roundabout to Bunyala roundabout (one side),” Chirchir noted.

    Meanwhile, motorists have been advised of alternative routes to use following the major road closure.

    Motorists from Mombasa Road heading to CBD are advised to use the Likoni Enterprise Road at General Motors and Southern Bypass at Olesereni; likewise, motorists from Langata Road to CBD have been urged to use Raila Odinga Road.

    Lang’ata Road users have also been provided with another alternative, which, according to the traffic report, is that they are advised to use Muhoho Road at Mabgathi roundabout.

    “Motorists from Mombasa Road going to CBD to use Likoni-Enterprise Road at General Motors and Southern Bypass at Olesereni, and motorists from Langata Road to CBD to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhuo Road at Mbagathi roundabout,” Chirchir stated.

    On the other hand, motorists from Nairobi Central Business District heading towards Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, and Thika have been asked to use Limuru or Kiambu Road.

    In addition, Chirchir has issued an advisory to matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani to use Ruaraka Baba-Ndogo Road and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo roundabout.

    On his part, Chirchir added that motorists from Thika Road towards CBD should use either the Eastern Bypass, Kimabu Road or Limuru Road, further sending stern warnings to motorists to avoid Thika Road unless they are going to Kasarani Stadium.
