The Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) General Manager for Finance and ICT, Noah Okech Oluoch, to four years in prison or a fine of KSh 3 million for securing his job with a fake degree.

Oluoch, also known as Noah Oketch Oluoch, pocketed KSh 1,455,066.05 in salaries and allowances between April 1 and August 31, 2022, after presenting the forged academic certificate.

For fraudulently obtaining the money, the court fined him KSh 100,000 or one year in jail, plus a mandatory penalty of KSh 2,910,131.10 or an additional two years in prison.

He was also found guilty of uttering a false document. On March 23, 2021, he presented a forged Master of Business Administration certificate, allegedly from the University of Nairobi, to REREC CEO CPA Peter Mbugua, knowing it was fake.

For uttering a false document, Oluoch was fined KSh 100,000 or serve one year in prison in default.

Magistrate Celesa Okore directed that the sentences be served consecutively. The prosecution was led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms. Kanana Kimiri.
