Bondeni Affordable Housing Project in Nakuru Nears Completion, Transforming Local Communities

By Michelle Ndaga

The Bondeni Affordable Housing Project in Nakuru Town is nearing completion, with 605 units set to be handed over to homeowners in the coming weeks. This milestone marks a significant achievement in Kenya’s ambitious affordable housing agenda, aiming to provide quality homes for low- and middle-income earners.

Located in the Bondeni Estate, the project comprises:

  • 45 one-bedroom units (33.3 sqm)
  • 180 two-bedroom units (64.1 sqm)
  • 380 three-bedroom units (85.2 sqm)

These homes are priced between KSh 1.55 million and KSh 4.25 million, with flexible rent-to-own options available. For instance, a two-bedroom unit can be rented at KSh 16,997 per month, while a three-bedroom unit is available at KSh 22,933 per month, with a deposit ranging from KSh 315,000 to KSh 425,000, depending on the unit type.

The development, funded by Kings Sapphire Developers, a subsidiary of Royal Group Industries, is part of the government’s broader initiative to address the housing deficit in urban areas. The project features modern amenities, including:

  • Children’s play area
  • Commercial centre with shopping complex
  • Community/multi-purpose hall
  • Early childhood day care centre/kindergarten
  • Water supply and storage facilities
  • Secured masonry boundary wall
  • Controlled access and well-planned security checkpoints
  • Cabro-paved driveways
  • Units for physically disabled individuals

These facilities aim to enhance the quality of life for residents and foster a sense of community within the estate.

The Bondeni project is a testament to the successful collaboration between the national government, county authorities, and private developers in addressing Kenya’s housing challenges. As the completion date approaches, prospective homeowners are encouraged to register and make contributions through the official Boma Yangu portal to secure their units.
