Leeds United have completed the signing of former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, the club announced on Friday, as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
Calvert-Lewin, 28, left Everton at the end of last season after nine years at Goodison Park, where he scored 71 goals in 273 appearances. The England international struggled with injuries in recent campaigns but still featured 26 times last season.
The move comes just days before Leeds open their Premier League campaign against Calvert-Lewin’s former club on Monday. However, manager Daniel Farke confirmed the striker will not be involved in that fixture but backed him to play a pivotal role in Leeds’ survival bid.
“Dominic is a proven Premier League player,” Farke said. “He ticks all the boxes we want in a signing, he has delivered at the top level, he is still at a good age, and he has all the skills you’d like your striker to have.
His recent years were interrupted by injury, but this is a chance for him to revive his career and reach the heights he once achieved.”
Calvert-Lewin, who last featured for England at Euro 2021, scoring four goals in 11 caps, said he was excited to begin a new chapter at Elland Road. “It is like walking in today on the first day at school,” he said. “I feel like a kid again starting somewhere new and just can’t wait to play.”
